Welcome to the Easy Ways to Detox at Home During Winter series.
This weeks topic is about detoxing through our largest organ - our skin. It's the first barrier we have between us and the rest of the world. It definitely serves a greater purpose than keeping us looking beautiful.
So how can we help our skin detox our body? My number one favourite method, especially during winter, is to enjoy a hot bath. By simply adding a cup of Epsom salts to your bath you help draw toxins through your skin. Epsom salts are a form of magnesium so they’re fantastic for relaxing and upregulating the sulfation pathway of detoxification in your liver.If you're wanting to use bath bombs, ensure you check the ingredients as many are synthetic and are toxic to us and the environment (ex - glitter).
Another method that induces that same effect is a sauna, particularly an infrared sauna. High-intensity exercise that induces sweating is another fabulous method of detoxification, plus it releases endorphins, leaving you feeling exhilarated for hours afterwards.
While bathing, you can also exfoliate to help remove dead skin cells and make it easier for the skin to expel the toxins. Enjoying a quiet hot bath, perhaps with a few drops of calming essential oil, a glass of organic wine and a good book is definitely my favourite way to detox during Winter!
