Easy Ways to Detox t Home - Winter Series - Garlic

This weeks Winter Cleanse focus is on garlic. You can't go past this super tasty addition to soup, casserole, stir-fry, pizza and (if you eat them) prawns. The amazingness of garlic has been noted for centuries, all the way back to Hippocrates prescribing it to his patients for all kinds of ailments.

Garlic is most well known for its beneficial heart properties - helping to relax blood vessels and increase blood flow by increasing the production of nitric oxide. Black or aged garlic has shown to exhibit greater concentrations of the anti-inflammatory properties responsible for these actions. The good news is that it can be swapped for normal garlic in most recipes if you would like to make your own at home - you don't have to take it as a supplement.

Garlic can help reduce your overall risk of heart disease as garlic has also been shown to reduce LDL cholesterol levels. The increased production of nitric oxide also helps reduce blood pressure and blood clots. An additional benefit is increased athletic performance, much like beetroot. 

 Feel a cold coming on? Or wary of catching COVID? Try supplementing with garlic at the onset of a cold to boost your immune system and reduce the severity.

Got acne? Cut a garlic bulb in half and rub over the pimples to kill the bacteria. don't overdo it, especially if you have sensitive skin. This treatment is definitely something to try during lockdown as I'm not sure anyone would want to come near you after application lol

To finish up, garlic is also an amazing soldier to have regularly in our gut to help combat unwanted microbes.
