All of a sudden Winter seems to have kicked in with force! It seemed to be sunny and lovely, and during the day times I was still rocking little summer dresses, but BOOM, now it is freezing. Yuck!
When I quit coffee, I found the hardest thing was early mornings in winter. We get up stupidly early to juice and deliver, so when I are jumping out of cozy warm bed, I really looked forward to a hot cup of coffee to keep me warm and wake me up. Despite being an avid herbal tea drinker, it just didn’t cut the mustard during those early morning shifts. So I turned to raw cacao. I just have a heaped teaspoon, fill with hot water, a dash of almond milk or soy milk and a teaspoon of agave nectar. Delicious!!
We all know that cacao is where chocolate comes from, before it gets roasted, salted, sugared and milked. So the raw version has all the health benefits of dark chocolate, with none of the added bits.
Here is why you should think about including cacao in your daily life:
Cacao has an antioxidant level that is 20x higher than red wine, 30x higher than green tea, 50x higher than blue berries and 5x higher than goji berries. It has the highest source of magnesium which is important for maintaining heart health, for relaxation, for healthy elimination of wastes, and for calcium uptake.. It has the highest source of chromium which helps to maintain blood sugar and it is a great source of iron, zinc, and other trace minerals.
