What is the first thing you think of when you wake up? Is it coffee, tea or maybe a cigarette??
There are some very simple ways for you to start your morning a little cleaner and healthier.. Drink a litre of water - water is the quickest and easiest way to flush your system out. After spending the last 8 hours with no liquids, your body is dehydrated and in need of water. Plus it is a great way to help flush your bowels first thing in the morning.
Hot water and lemon - lemon is naturally alkalising on the body, so it is a perfect way to bring a more alkaline balance to your body after whatever you did to it the night before. Lemon is rich in vitamin C and also enhances your ability to absorb iron plus it helps to cleanse the bowel by flushing out waste more efficiently.
Hot water and apple cider vinegar - apple cider vinegar is very high in acetic acid which is a potent antimicrobial and can help to kill some bacteria which makes it a perfect way gargle away sore throats. The acetic acid also may help to suppress appetite, increase metabolism and reduce water retention. The amino acids in apple cider vinegar also help to pep you up when feeling tired which makes it a perfect morning drink.
Hot cacao - this is my go to coffee replacement! Cacao is one of the highest antioxidant foods on the planet, and the richest food source of magnesium which maintains normal nerve and muscle function, supports a healthy immune system, keeps the heart beat steady, and helps bones remain strong. Magnesium also helps regulate blood glucose levels and aid in the production of energy and protein. You can grab it from any health food store, just make it like a hot chocolate with a dash of rice malt and sip of soy milk.
Roobios tea - this is a caffeine free tea and also rich in antioxidants that have anti-inflammatory properties. One of the more potent antioxidants in rooibos tea is called Chysoeriol. It can improve circulation by preventing the activity of the enzyme that triggers cardiovascular disease. Drinking rooibos tea also has been known to lower blood pressure and cholesterol.
